Description
Description: One field technician is needed from May through August to assist a graduate student with a project on bats in Florida, Alabama and Georgia. The project will be focusing on determining diet of native species in the Gainesville, Tallahassee and Montgomery regions. Job duties will include: selecting field sites, setting up equipment, handling bats, and collecting guano for diet analysis. Housing and a work vehicle will be provided, but technicians are responsible for their own food.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants should have, or be working towards, a B.S. degree in ecology, fish and wildlife biology, environmental science, biology, or a related field. A valid driver’s license is required. Applicants must have a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. Technician will have work long and unusual hours. Must be willing to utilize shared housing and work up to 7 days a week. Must be physically fit and comfortable hiking and working in hot, potentially inclement weather. Must have proof of rabies vaccination or titer check within past two years. This series of three shots is $900 and few insurance companies cover it.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience handling bats, small mammals, or birds. Previous experience with mist nets or black light traps is a plus. Experience driving 4WD vehicles in field conditions is preferred.
