Job description: The position will involve mostly field work including deploying acoustic recorders, conducting mobile surveys, participating in mist net surveys, completing emergence counts and assisting with radio-tracking. Field work will be conducted around the state, but overnight travel will be ~ 2-4 nights per week (lodging and per diem will be provided for travel).  Candidate must keep meticulous datasheets, be capable of managing large amounts of acoustic data, and be available to work a flexible schedule. Candidate must be comfortable navigating off trail, hiking with heavy equipment and able to work under various and rigorous field conditions including poison ivy, mosquitos, stinging nettle, snakes, etc. Housing will not be provided in Champaign, however there are usually many sublets available in Champaign, Illinois, as it is home to a large University student community. Travel throughout the State of Illinois is required, and working outdoors, including at night and under adverse weather conditions, will be conducted as projects require.

Qualifications - Required:
·         Bachelor’s degree in wildlife ecology, biology, zoology or an appropriate biological science.
·         At least two field seasons of conducting bat surveys.
·         Current rabies vaccine.
·         Willingness to travel overnight throughout Illinois and work under adverse weather conditions.
·         Must have a valid driver’s license.
·         Must possess the physical skills necessary to collect field samples and conduct research.
·         Must demonstrate an ability to ensure the highest possible standards of quality, safety, and ethics with little supervision.
Qualifications – Preferred:
·         Federal Indiana/Northern Long-eared bat permit.
·         Knowledge of Midwestern flora, including identification of tree species, suitable for making habitat assessments.
·         Familiarity with bat acoustic monitoring protocols, equipment, and associated software programs.

Salary: $25/hour if candidate meets all qualifications, up to 40 hours per week. The estimated starting date is May 10, 2018.
