ERM Partners with Wildlife Acoustics to
Offer Bat Acoustics Training Course
Ijams Nature Center
Knoxville, TN April 17‐19, 2017

ERM bat biologists are collaborating with Wildlife Acoustics, producers of the SM4BAT,
SM3BAT, the Echo Meter Touch, and developers of Kaleidoscope Pro software, to offer
training courses in conducting bat acoustic surveys and identifying bats from their calls.
Experienced and new bat biologists are welcome to take advantage of this convenient
training opportunity.

The course will help you:

• Select productive sampling sites and set up bat detectors in the field
• Download data from bat detectors and manage large volumes of data
• Use Kaleidoscope Pro Software to process call files for auto‐classification
• Consistently manually vet bat call files to classify species
• Learn the metrics needed to identify Myotis species

The USFWS’s 2016 Range‐Wide Indiana Bat Summer Survey Guidelines state, “acoustic
surveyors should have completed one or more of the available bat acoustic
courses/workshops, or be able to show similar on‐the‐job or academic experience”.
Taking a course is the fastest way to expand your experience with bat acoustic surveys
and manual classification of bat calls. ERM’s and Wildlife Acoustics’ Bat Acoustic
Training Course will demonstrate the necessary skills, knowledge, and proficiencies you
need to master before you can reliably conduct bat acoustic surveys.

Course Schedule:
April 17, Monday, 1:00p ‐ 6:00p
April 18, Tuesday, 9:00a ‐ 5:00p & 7:30p ‐ 9:30p
April 19, Wednesday, 9:00a ‐ 4:00p

Course Fee: $1,350 (includes 3 days of attention‐gripping instruction, including field trips
and evening “extra help” sessions, a temporary Kaleidoscope Pro license, course
handouts, lunch on Day 2 and 3, and break refreshments. All lodging, other meals, and
transportation are the attendees’ responsibility.

Travel and Accommodations:
The ERM & Wildlife Acoustics’ Bat Acoustics Training Course will be held in the Miller
Room at Ijams Nature Center: 2915 Island Home Ave, Knoxville, TN 37920. The nearest
airport is Tyson International Airport, (25 min drive). Free Parking is available at the
Nature Center.

The Holiday Inn at World’s Fair Park has offered a special rate:
• $109.00 plus applicable tax for single/double occupancy
• Room with Breakfast Rate of $119.00/$129.00 plus tax single/double occupancy
• Government Rates are by availability: $94.00
