The Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota is looking to fill up to 2 positions to be part of their bat team this summer.  Work will include netting, attaching transmitters to female northern long-eared bats, limited telemetry, conducting emergence surveys and acoustic surveys.  Travel away from the duty station (either Ely or Duluth, MN) for 6 weeks will be required.  Work is to start on or about June 1st and last through September. This announcement is for a generic Biological Technician, but job duties will be 100% bat related.

Bat Technician Needed -- May 30 through mid-August, 2017, Clemson, SC

Duties: We will be collecting data on roost ecology of rare and threatened bat species on the Andrew Pickens Ranger District of the Sumter National Forest, Oconee County, SC. Duties include assisting with mist-netting, tracking radio-tagged bats to roost sites, conducting emergence counts, collecting habitat data, data entry, and performing WNS decontamination procedures. This is a 40-hr/week position but the timing of those hours may be irregular. The position is through Clemson University but the technician will work closely with personnel in the USFS, Southern Research Station.

Qualifications: The applicant will be required to work irregular hours depending on weather, the number of bats with radio-tags, and other factors. The applicant must be able to work in all types of weather ranging from hot and humid to cool and damp and be able to walk long distances over steep terrain. Previous bat handling and radio-tracking experience is preferred. The applicant must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Salary: $11.50/hr.
