1. Title: Bat Research Technician



2. Salary: $9.37 per hour



3. Duration: May through August 2017 (exact dates to be determined; not to exceed 12 weeks)



4. Job summary: The University of Georgia, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (http://warnell.uga.edu/) is offering two full-time seasonal positions working with bats for summer 2017. The employees will be working with a graduate student studying cave-dwelling bat species in North Georgia. Activities will include, but are not limited to, mist-netting bats, acoustic sampling, bat roost searching, radio-telemetry, habitat characterization and data entry. Housing and transportation will be provided while in the field, but selected applicants must provide their own transportation to the University of Georgia campus.



5. Education and experience: Applicants must have some college-level coursework in ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field. Applicants should be comfortable performing data entry and other computer-based work. A valid class C driver’s license is required.



6. Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals that have current rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis and have experience with bat mist netting, ID techniques and radio-telemetry. Some experience using a GPS is also preferred.



7. Physical demand: Applicants should be in good physical condition and be able to work at night and in hot, humid field conditions where encounters with snakes, biting insects, etc. are possible.



8. Breakdown responsibilities: 90% time performing field research; 10% time performing data-entry or other computer-based work.
