 RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Assists, develops & coordinates activities of the wind energy program in the Division of Wildlife [DOW]: formulates and implements statewide wind energy policies to reduce impacts to wildlife (primarily birds and bats) in Ohio: develops, reviews and revises pre- and post-construction monitoring protocols, cooperative agreements, incidental take policies and other guidance materials related to assessing impacts of wind energy development to wildlife; serves as technical advisor and ODNR lead contact for wind energy development; attends committee and project consultation meetings; writes grants, reports and other documents as needed to meet program and funding requirements; completes other types of energy development projects as needed.

Performs miscellaneous administrative duties:  assists with statewide terrestrial wildlife diversity and endangered species management programs (including bats): coordinate environmental assessment process internally and externally for terrestrial wildlife with partners including federal and state agencies (Phase 1 and Ohio Environmental Assessment Review (OEAR); review incidental take permit applications and provide biological opinions; develop and maintain authorization/ credentials for permitted individuals (bats and other species); design and coordinate wildlife management and research projects; prepare and evaluate grant proposals that meet wildlife conservation and management objectives; assist with operational planning, budgeting and project reporting; prepare legal documents (e.g. contracts and policies); directs lower level biologists, technicians, and seasonal workers regarding research methods and best practices.

Acts as liaison with local, state & national organizations:  serves as liaison with other divisions, agencies, non-governmental organizations, and constituents interested in wildlife diversity: serves on state and regional committees, boards, and advisory groups; prepares and delivers presentations concerning programs, policies, and activities; discusses status of programs via telephone, radio, television, and in-person.
