Stantec is currently seeking exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in the natural sciences to join our team in Overland Park, KS and advance their career as a Biologist.



The primary responsibility of this position is working on bat acoustic detector surveys and managing and processing acoustic bat data from various locations in the Great Plains and Midwest. The analyst will be responsible for tracking, organizing, QA/QC, and archiving acoustic datasets, analyzing acoustic data using automated bat identification software (e.g. BCID or Kaleidoscope Pro), qualitative review of acoustic bat call files, and report preparation. Other responsibilities could include conducting wildlife field surveys and habitat assessments for a variety of species including bats, breeding birds and raptors.



This role includes managing survey datasets collected for environmental permitting, assessment, and/or compliance related to the ESA, MBTA, BGEPA, USACE, USFWS, NEPA, and various state agency requirements as they pertain to energy transmission and generation facilities, transportation, and private development projects. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, participating in multi-disciplinary environmental assessments; recording, entering, organizing, managing, and analyzing data, and writing technical reports for client and regulatory agency review.

Required Skills and Experience:

  *   Bachelor's degree in biology from an accredited college.
  *   1 - 3 years’ experience in wildlife studies.
  *   Candidates with a Master’s degree or graduate research experience in wildlife ecology/acoustic analysis will be given preference.
•       Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of bat acoustic analysis
•       Working knowledge of bat survey techniques, conservation issues, distribution and habitat requirements, and impact avoidance and minimization measures.
•       Applicants having experience with acoustical bat surveying, bat mist net surveys and/or radio-telemetry projects (tracking wildlife and assessing habitat use) are preferred.

  *   Candidates should have a solid background in mammalogy, ecology, and/or wildlife management
  *   Superb observation skills are highly valued, as are a keen interest in ecosystems, comfort with computers and technology, a willingness to learn new skills while conducting fieldwork in rural or wilderness settings, and flexibility in work assignments.
  *   The ability to develop basic reports from field notes is essential.
  *   Ability to appear on time and work at a desk for long periods of time.
  *   Aptitude to follow instructions from project managers and biologists, interact effectively with coworkers; and to accept guidance and constructive criticism. Precise and thorough data management and organization is essential.
  *   Ability to maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity.
  *   Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
  *   Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful completion of a physical and drug screening.
