M.S. Assistantship with bats

Agency:  Tennessee Technological University

Location: Cookeville, TN

Job Description: Student will undertake a project evaluating the ecology of southeastern myotis bats (Myotis austroriparius).  Research will involve field capture of bats, radio-telemetry, habitat characterization, and analyses of data at a field site in western Tennessee.  Night work will be a regular component of this project.

Minimum Qualifications:  The successful applicant must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle, be comfortable working alone at night, and be capable of carrying equipment weighing up to 40 pounds ½ mile.  Applicant must have received or be willing to obtain pre-exposure vaccination against rabies (applicants who have already been vaccinated will be preferred).

Desired Qualifications:  Experience with statistical analysis.  Field experience with bats in eastern North America, including the ability to identify bats of the region.  Experience with radio-telemetry.

Minimum academic qualifications: Undergraduate G.P.A. of 3.3 (4.0 scale) and minimum converted GRE scores of at least 50th percentile in each category (verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing).

Salary:  Student would serve as a teaching assistant in the department of biology at Tennessee Tech.  Project is contingent upon research funding that is not certain at this time.
