Loan Exit Counseling is a currently a big initiative on our campus. During the last few weeks of the semester we hold "Mandatory" Student Loan Exit Counseling sessions in computer labs all over campus. We reserve the labs on a variety of days and times and
invite graduates to attend with a free online sign-up tool called Sign-up genius. We imply that attendance at a session is required for graduation and they don't ask questions. If they can't attend a session then we tell them to come to our office for one-on-one
training and they show up. We are capturing about 70% of our graduates. <br>

During the sessions we give a brief 15 minute presentation that covers the role of the servicer (there is still confusion over who they borrowed the money from), the consequences of default, and all the options available to help if they run into trouble. After
the presentation we have them go online and complete their exit counseling, and we assist them and answer questions as needed. I realize this would be a big undertaking for a large campus, but the impact and the value to students is huge.

After graduation we will send them an email with a summary of all the info in our presentation. We will include important links and resources to help them in the future. I agree with Sarah. I just did an interview with our local CBS affiliate about this topic. These companies aren't operating for free. They're charging for services the Feds/servicers do for free. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau put out a consumer
advisory back in 2014 when they started popping up.<br>

There are many of these types of companies popping up now and the best advice is to steer clear of them all. Any student who has borrowed FEDERAL student loans should only work with U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid on repaying those loans (https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans).<br>
