Subject: Financial Literacy and Education Commission Seeks Public Comments on National Strategy Update

This message was sent securely using ZixCorp.<http://www.zixcorp.com/get-started/>

Friends,

This month marks National Financial Capability Month<https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2016/03/31/presidential-proclamation-national-financial-capability-month-2016>, as noted by President Obama’s proclamation. National Financial Capability Month is an important time for Americans to build their own financial knowledge and skills, and a time to consider ways to help more people gain access to safe and affordable financial products and services.

The Financial Literacy and Education Commission was created in 2003, and charged the Commission to “improve the financial literacy and education of persons in the United States through development of a national strategy to promote financial literacy and education.” In 2011, the Commission released a national strategy entitled Promoting Financial Success in the United States: National Strategy for Financial Literacy.<https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/financial-education/Documents/NationalStrategyBook_12310%20(2).pdf> The Commission is updating the 2011 National Strategy: On behalf of the Commission, the Department of the Treasury invites the public to comment on the National Strategy Update. The Update will highlight the state of financial education today, and what has changed since 2011. It will also discuss the FLEC’s accomplishments, and next steps informed by what we have learned about financial literacy and financial well-being in the last several years.

The notice will be open for comments until May 11, 2016

The request for public comment is now available on the Federal Register here: https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2016/04/11/2016-08227/comment-request-for-the-financial-literacy-and-education-commission-on-the-draft-national-strategy

Your comments on the National Strategy Update will help the FLEC continue in its role of promoting and coordinating financial education, and we hope will encourage educators, business and community leaders, and many more Americans to contribute to a more financially informed and prepared nation.

Sincerely,

Meina Banh
