Thanks for this opportunity.

www.mycollegemoneyplan.org<http://www.mycollegemoneyplan.org> is a free financial literacy resource.

It was designed to assist students to assess and determine how they will cope with the cost of higher education without incurring excessive student loan debt.

In addition the website contains information so students (or anyone) can take steps toward financial independence.

Students who are already enrolled in higher education institutions can use interactive worksheets and information within the website to monitor their education costs/financial resource situation as the progress toward graduation much like they should track their academic progress through academic advising. After all, most schools devote significant resource toward academic/faculty advising but it remains the students responsibility to understand financial terms and deal with the  long-term impact of complex  contracts for loans for which they, and often people who are in helping roles, are almost totally unprepared.

The website was produced by the grant funded Financial Literacy Project within the Office for Student Success at Wichita State University. It does not promote any particular school or career path. It also can be used independently by students, along with people helping them (parents, high school counselors, other mentors, trained peers in higher education first year seminars, etc).

There is a “Teaching Resources” section in the website and several schools are using the website in their first year seminar courses this semester.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday!

One of the things I noticed about being on this listserv is people asking for help finding different resources.  I’m working on putting together a PDF of “Financial Literacy Resources” and need your help making it happen! I want this resource to include content that admins can use to help students and that admins can use as a resource.

Perfect example is the YouTube channel “Financial Aid Unplugged<https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7kE6Oy_XHgjnvvOBzsnEkw>” that Louise Biron was kind enough to share with us.

Please feel free to share: blogs, videos, articles, websites, and other relevant resources.

I will most definitely share it with everyone once the document is finalized.
