Having discussed with the user offline we discovered that their instance of MVAPICH2 was not configure with pvars enabled. Setting "--enable-mpit-pvars" at configure time resolved the issue. We are adding logic to MVAPICH2 to notify users that an installation
was not configured with support for mpit-pvars if they attempt to access them on an unsupported build.
