[mvapich-discuss] WARNING: Error in initializing MVAPICH2 ptmalloc library (not Python related)

Hi,

We recently noticed this warning message from mvapich2/2.3.3 with pgi/20.1 on OSC:

$ module reset
$ module load pgi/20.1 mvapich2/2.3.3
$ mpiexec -np 2 -ppn 1 ./hello-pgi
WARNING: Error in initializing MVAPICH2 ptmalloc library.Continuing without InfiniBand registration cache support.
Hello world from rank 0 out of 2 processors on CPU 00 on node o0553.ten.osc.edu
Hello world from rank 1 out of 2 processors on CPU 00 on node o0484.ten.osc.edu

I have googled this and found the work arounds for Python based program do not work at all: http://mvapich.cse.ohio-state.edu/static/media/mvapich/mvapich2-2.3.2-userguide.html#x1-1320009.1.1


1. One question: is there impact to the performance of the MPI program when I get this warning?

2. Here is the configuration for installation of mvapich2/2.3.3 with pgi/20.1

$ mpiname  -a
MVAPICH2 2.3.3 Thu January 09 22:00:00 EST 2019 ch3:mrail

Compilation
