Thanks for the quick reply.  It is something that we will definitely need to have.  We would need to be able to specify the timeout in at least 1ms increments.

The current MPI-2.2 standard doesn't allow this. However, a similar
issue was raised by another application scientist here at Argonne. Maybe
it is something to be considered for MPI-3.
