By replacing the Intel scalapack calls by scalapack version 1.7 I
managed to trace the problem to the call from pdstebz to
BLACS_GRIDEXIT; if I comment out this line (at the bottom of pdstebz)
everything works fine.

I'm not sure if this is a mvapich issue, maybe someone can tell me.
