We're pleased to announce a new course offering for Autumn 2026 that will be of strong interest to anyone engaged with Middle East and North Africa (MENA) studies:
<b>Cultural Heritage Management (ARTEDUC 5795)</b>, taught by Dr. Zülâl Fazlıoğlu Akın in the Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy. </div>

This course offers a cross-cultural, international perspective on current debates in cultural heritage, drawing on case studies from the U.S., Europe, South America, Asia, and the MENA region. Students will explore the social, cultural, political, and economic
dimensions of heritage policy — including the role of UNESCO, nation-state building, memory, digital heritage, heritage diplomacy, dissonant heritage, repatriation and restitution, and illicit trafficking. The course pairs theoretical grounding with hands-on
engagement through lectures, discussions, guest speakers, and individual and group projects, including a project based on Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk's novel,
<i>Museum of Innocence</i>.</div>
