<p>The “International Conference on Chinese Translation History” series organised by the Research Centre for Translation, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, aspires to explore Chinese translation history within the bigger framework of world civilisation and human thought. It aims to lay groundwork for new models, methods, and perspectives in this innovative interdisciplinary branch of learning through detailed case studies. Since 2015, the conference series are held every two years, with a different central theme for every conference.</p>
<p align="justify">The third conference, “Culture and Politics: Roles of Translation in the Course of History,” now invites submission of panel abstracts as well as abstracts for individual papers.</p>
<p align="justify">In addition to “translation” and “history,” “culture” and “politics” are also included as key words of this conference with the goal to present the significant impact and various roles of translation in the course of history. “Culture” covers a wide range of topics. Translation phenomena in literature, ideology, religion, economy, law, science and technology, as well as media and others are all within the scope of this conference. This fully reflects the interdisciplinary nature of translation history studies. “Politics” at the same time is a very important factor in the historical development of a nation. It is hoped that the in-depth exploration of topics related to culture and politics in translation history will contribute to a more profound and precise understanding of China from the past to the present.</p>
<p><strong>Languages of Presentation</strong><strong>:</strong><br />
Chinese (Putonghua) and English</p>
<p><strong>1. For Individual Submission:</strong></p>
<p>Please email the completed application form with an abstract of your paper (no more than 250 words) to <a href="mailto:translationhistory@cuhk.edu.hk">translationhistory@cuhk.edu.hk</a> on or before 15 August 2019.</p>
<p>Abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Organising Committee and scholars invited by the Committee.</p>
<p>Notifications of acceptance will be sent out before 31 August 2019.</p>
<p><strong>2. For Panel Submission:</strong></p>
<p>Number of panel members:</p>
<p>3 scholars for each panel, including one chairperson to host the panel session.</p>
<p>Please email the completed application form with an abstract of your panel (no more than 250 words) to <a href="mailto:translationhistory@cuhk.edu.hk">translationhistory@cuhk.edu.hk</a> on or before 15 August 2019. Please also submit one abstract for each individual paper.</p>
