A Putonghua rap song performed by American comedian Jesse Appell, which mocks the reimbursement culture in China, has gone viral on social media, news portal hk01.com reports.

The song “Reimburse That $h*t!” resonates with many Chinese listeners because it is a common practice in many mainland companies for employees and officials to seek reimbursement of their expenses as long as they can present the appropriate receipts (or “fapiao” in Putonghua).

As the lyrics of the song suggest, one does not have to earn a high salary in order to be a big spender, as reimbursement is guaranteed as long as a receipt is available.

“Every penny I spent came from my company!” the song goes.

The actual situation in the mainland may be worse.

On Wednesday the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China disclosed that Geng Guangli, a former vice president at Kaifeng University in Henan province, was found guilty of corruption.

According to the China News Service, Geng went on a five-day luxury trip to Hong Kong worth 60,000 yuan (US$9,140).

Upon his return, his expenses were reimbursed by a contractor who had won the construction project for a new campus for the university.

Geng was stripped of his party membership and relieved of his duties after he was arrested in late December last year.
