Current climatic conditions prevent boreal forest plant species from surviving in the Canadian High Arctic. However, evidence in the form of ancient forest sites (so-called fossil forests) indicates that boreal forest ecosystems existed in the Arctic up to
81° north latitude until just prior to the onset of the last ice age, some 3 million years ago. Interestingly, atmospheric CO2 concentrations at the time were ~400 parts per million, a level that was recorded for the first time in human history during spring
2012. As concentrations of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere continue to rise, approaching and expected to surpass levels associated with a warmer and forested ancient Arctic, what does this mean for Arctic regions in the future?

The Pride And Life Skills mentoring program (PALS) is a cooperative venture between The Ohio State University at Marion, the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County, and Marion Public Schools to develop a mentoring program that is a win-win situation for both elementary,
middle school students, and college students. PALS, connects college students from the Marion campus with grade school children in the Marion area to provide one-on-one mentoring opportunities for kids. The Boys & Girls Club matches program volunteers with
school age children and provides each a useful handbook to direct them through the mentoring process. Students earn 1-credit per quarter of independent study by attending mentoring sessions regularly, coming to a few meetings, and writing a two-page report
about their mentoring activities at the end of each quarter.

With the fall semester approaching, we write to share information about the university's presidential search. Ohio State is in a strong position to attract its next leader, and your engagement is central to our success.

We are beginning the search process, officially launched last month, by actively seeking suggestions from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends. Please share your ideas through the presidential search website, linked from the university's homepage.
There, you can suggest a potential candidate, offer thoughts on qualities needed in our next president, or comment on Ohio State's unique opportunities.

You will also have the opportunity to provide your thoughts and suggestions at an open forum. We hope that you will join us at an upcoming forum.
