Dear Dr. Passino,

We are emailing you to invite you and the students in the Humanitarian Engineering program to participate in Tierra Prometida: Breaking the Cycle of Poverty, a showcase of organizations working on the issue of poverty around the world. We are looking for speakers to join us at this event, so, if possible, we would like for you to share this information with students in your program you think may be interested.

The showcase will be held Thursday, November 9th, from 8:30-10:30 pm in the Cartoon Room of the Ohio Union. We plan for each speaker to present for roughly 10 minutes each; we will also show a short documentary highlighting our work in rural Nicaragua.

We feel that this showcase would be a mutually beneficial opportunity to raise awareness for your program on campus, and for all of us to raise awareness for education, local and global empowerment, and breaking the cycle of poverty. In these presentations, we ask that speakers introduce their organizations or projects and what they do, then share their experiences regarding poverty alleviation through education and empowerment.

Students who are interested in participating should reply to this email by Monday, October 9th, with tentative topics and explanations of what they would like to cover. Even if they would not like to present, your students may still find attending the showcase an interesting and educational experience. If you are not interested, please reply to this email anyway to let us know. Please contact us at this email with any questions.
