Hello everyone,

I'm pleased to announce a new humanitarian engineering class offered for the first time in the spring 2016 - please see details below!

ENGR 5194 Appropriate Technology for Developing Countries

Definition: Appropriate technology product development for people in developing countries.

Course Description: This course is designed to provide applied knowledge of appropriate technology product development for people in developing countries. Commercializing products helps to ensure long-term sustainability, and this course will focus on such market driven solutions for community development. 3 credit hours, graded A-E.

Spring 2016: (33286) MWF 9:00 - 9:55am, Rm. 3011 Smith.

Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor, undergraduates who have taken ENGR 1182 or ENGR 1282, or graduate student standing.

Counting it toward your engineering degree: Undergraduates will have to ask their home Department if they will accept this course as a technical elective (quite a few departments do already), an independent study, or as the first course in a capstone design course sequence. Graduate curricula are generally flexible, and this course number is high enough, so that this course will most certainly count toward your graduate degree.
