of the work. It never did. The definition of parallel title did not change from A2 to RDA; the only difference is that now we consider to be “parallel” titles that appear anywhere in the book, not only on the same page as the title proper in the language of
the book, and that we record those parallel titles in the 245.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D;mso-fareast-language:JA"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D;mso-fareast-language:JA">041 is only used “when the fixed-field element Lang is insufficient to convey full information for multilingual items, items that are translations, or items where a medium of communication
is a sign language” (Bib Formats And Standards). Thus, it is not needed/is redundant when the only English (or other language) that appears in the book is an added title, since the record for the manifestation as a whole is coded as Hebrew. I don’t think I’ve
ever seen an 041 with just one $a which matches the language code in the fixed field. (I would argue that a 546 is also redundant in such cases, but it’s not wrong, per se.)<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Unfortunately, the RDA instructions, as Jasmin has pointed out, do say to treat these titles as parallel titles. I agree with Yossi that putting the English titles in the 245 as parallel titles is misleading, and it also is messy to have
