Hi Yosi,

The question has been brought up and discussed more than once; alongside the question as to whether or not we collate all title variants under one heading instead of having multiple headings of the type "Poems.|kSelections".

I will answer your question based upon the second scenario.

RDA 6.4 which tells us that

Date of work is also a core element when needed to differentiate a work from another work with the same title or from the name of a person, family, or corporate body

If you have a collection of poems by an author which has been cataloged with the preferred title "Poems. Selections" and subsequently you need to catalog another volume with the same preferred title but different contents, you have a different work.

So you need to differentiate by date.

RDA Appendix E.1.2.5 tells us to

I invite thoughts from my colleagues, especially those at LC, or PCC members.

Thanks, Heidi

Colleagues,

I did not check any RDA tools or reference sources:

We are using for collections of poetry by one author (most of the poetry books) the 240 field:

Poems. $k Selections

I noticed that some catalogers are adding the year of publication in brackets after $k Selections.

$a Poems. $k Selections (2015)

Shouldn't we use $f and the year (without the brackets):
