They are not required.</p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>Best practice: 368 subfield $d Title of person </b></p><p class="MsoNormal">Although NACO generally prefers the use of controlled terms in the 3XX fields, a controlled term in 368 subfield $d for the title of a person might not be appropriate, since the title of a person is based on usage. They are not required.</p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>NACO best practice</b></p><p class="MsoNormal">Guidelines and examples for the new fields are being developed by the PCC Standing Committee on Training (SCT). </p><p class="MsoNormal">It might be a good idea to wait for the NACO best practice guidelines to be developed before you start adding these new fields , but you may add them now if you wish. Please follow the guidelines in the MARC 21 Authority Format while the NACO best practice guidelines are being developed. </p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal">Here are some basic things to keep in mind about the new fields:</p><p class="MsoPlainText"> </p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>385 Audience Characteristics</b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>386 Creator/Contributor Characteristics</b></p><p class="MsoNormal">These fields are used in NACO records for <b>Works</b> and <b>Expressions</b> .
