Although vocalization practice has varied across time and tradition, Yiddish is a vocalized language. I therefore do not believe it is necessary to add a 500 “Title vocalized” or “Vocalized title page,” etc. One expects Yiddish text to be vocalized. Yiddish uses selected nikud, such as under the aleph in certain words. It would be incorrect to spell a Yiddish word without this. Hebrew materials, on the other hand, usually appear without nekudot. Even when a title is vocalized, we transcribe it when we catalog it without the vocalization and put in a 500 note that says: "Title vocalized", etc. Would we do the same with Yiddish? E.g. the word "Amerikaner" -- would we enter the Yiddish script unvocalized and add a note? Or is there a keyboard or program one can get for use with Yiddish cataloging that provides selected nekudot (my Hebrew keyboard does not have any nekudot)? Or are Yiddish language materials always cataloged in romanization only (no Yiddish script used)?<br>Thanks<o:p></o:p></p></div></div></div></body></html>
