leparkhes (1911, Yiddish/Ashkenazi Hebrew pronunciation of הגדה לפרחות -
the "Hebrew" title is an obvious pun given the content of the
publication) and Gedules haparkhus (גדולת הפארכוס, 1857), were both
published in Lemberg, and the "train ticket" for the "Parkhkomisye"
("Parkh" Commission) that is reproduced at </span><span><a href="http://yiddishsong.wordpress.com/2010/05/">http://yiddishsong.wordpress.com/2010/05/</a> </span>is
from Sanok, likewise Eastern Galicia, in the interwar period. This
points to the persistence of this odd bit of folklore regarding
"parekhs" among Jews of Galicia and Bukovina.<br>
<span><br></span><span id="c215375c-8d2c-4da4-8309-23486a0d8284">In a private e-mail exchange with Bob Talbott concerning the הגדה לפרחות he asked for additional references to anything by Itzik Gottesman on this subject that might have been published. Unfortunately, the best I can do is cite a 2005 Mendele post by Yrs Truly, which refers to a presentation by Itzik, which I heard at the Association for Jewish Studies some years previously: <a href="http://mendele.commons.yale.edu/wp/wp-content/uploads/TxtArchive/vol15/vol15011.txt">http://mendele.commons.yale.edu/wp/wp-content/uploads/TxtArchive/vol15/vol15011.txt</a>. I've previously sent Heb-NACO a link to his 2010 commentary on a song that is devoted this subject (</span><span><a href="http://yiddishsong.wordpress.com/2010/05/">http://yiddishsong.wordpress.com/2010/05/</a>). It appears that he has not published anything in the academic literature about parkhes.
