DANCE 2190: Special Topics

Flamenco I: Practice, Politics, Poetics

2 credit hours

Sullivant Hall 290 (in-person)

9:30am-11:00am Tuesday and Thursday

Instructor: Amy Schofield, MFA (schofield.80 at osu.edu)

This course is an open-level introduction to flamenco dance suitable for those with no previous experience. We will engage with both movement practice and flamenco history and theory, learning about this Spanish percussive dance form within its cultural context and as it exists in the diaspora to investigate its multi-cultural origins, problematize issues of gender and race, and explore how contemporary flamenco practices are making waves in the field.
