As an international national university, the University of Tartu seeks to strike a balance between attracting bright international students and researchers and promoting Estonian language and culture. One of the outcomes of the internationalisation efforts is the international master's program "Folkloristics and Applied Heritage Studies" that was launched in 2017 and attracts students from across the globe. At the same time, it fuels discussions about the purpose and price of internationalisation and mobility as well as about international national disciplines in Eastern Europe.
