Electronics Club-ers,

A date and time for the first meeting of the semester has been decided. We will be meeting this Thursday (January 30th) at 6:30PM. Pizza will be provided. The intention is to hold the meeting in our lab space (CL-078), but if necessary we can move to a larger room. This will be a basic discussion of club affairs and the current state of things.

A few other announcements:

- Many of you have probably noticed that the southwest basement door in Caldwell is now locked. This was an ABET-imposed requirement that arose from safety concerns in the Electric Machines/Power lab. The ECE Department is now requiring that door be closed and locked at all times, except when the ECE-3047 lab is in session. This happens to block the most direct and convenient route into our lab. For the time being, I recommend using the north-central stairway to access the lab. It's been reported those doors are occasionally closed and locked; I've discussed this with the ECE Department, and unfortunately we don't have a good work-around for this at the present. Please be patient as we work to solve this issue. And, as always, please do not venture off into the Electric Machines/Power lab. There are electrical sources in that lab that could cause severe harm if handled by unauthorized personnel.

- I've been contacted by two OSU students who recently formed a start-up. They are looking for people who are comfortable working with Arduino-like microcontrollers (Atmel AVR devices) and USB. Interested persons should contact Lucas Scarasso at: scarasso.1 at buckeyemail.osu.edu

- Some burn marks on the sponge for the club Hakko FX888D soldering station were recently discovered. Remember that soldering sponges must be thoroughly wet prior to use. To prolong the life of the equipment (which is relatively expensive), the Hakko station is off limits to those with novice soldering skills. If you would like to practice soldering, please use the Weller soldering irons located throughout the lab.

Hope to see you at the meeting!

-Nick
