[Drupal] Drupal Digest, Vol 109, Issue 4

Hello Dan,

I also welcome you to the Ohio State Drupal community. Jason Little (University Marketing) and myself (College of Arts and Sciences) organize the Drupal monthly get togethers.

Love your list of questions. That helps us guide the presentations and conversations in our meetings. Our goal is to have the information be useful and applicable for the group.

In arts and sciences we have used both Acquia and Pantheon over the years. Currently Pantheon best fits the needs for how we manage our 160 websites. Most are on Drupal 9 with a few still lingering in Drupal 7. I'm happy to talk via email/teams if you have questions.

I added you to the next Drupal get together that is happening Thursday, July 22.

best,
Eva

Welcome Dan!

We do have a community of developers here on campus, with (usually) monthly meetings on the last Thursday of each month. You'll see the details sent out ahead of time on this list.

I'm the web services manager over at the College of Engineering, and we run 50+ Drupal 8 sites, plus about 225 Drupal 7 sites we are in the process of phasing out. The other big shops on campus will be CFAES, Arts and Sciences, OCIO, and University Marketing.

I can't speak to some of your questions (we have not started Drupal 9 yet), but I can say that your workflow/updating depends on your codebase setup, your host, and how your code is distributed. We use composer and host on Pantheon with a custom upstream on Bitbucket, so for us code updates are generally straightforward.

Pantheon Vs Aquia is a larger discussion. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. For us, we have found Pantheon's feature set and service fits our needs the best.

Welcome to the community! I won't be at the meeting this month (family vacation), but I look forward to talking in teh future. Feel free to reach out if you ever want to talk.

Hi,

I'm new to the OSU ecosystem and was looking to network with other Drupal administrators & developers within the university. My role is mainly as a developer but am tasked with managing our (grc.osu.edu) web assets, which include a few Acquia hosted Drupal 8.x sites. If anyone is willing to share their thoughts, best practices or what your "go to" resources are, I'm interested in leveraging your experience in the following categories.

* Is there a Drupal user group and meetings here at the university??

* Migrating to Drupal 9 - common pain points

* Managing Drupal modules and theme updates

*        Pantheon vs. Acquia

* With Acquia, it sounds like I am responsible for managing/ migrating the PHP versions (we are currently on 7.3), is ?

* Any other things to look out for, that I don't even know to ask about?

Thanks in advance for any information/ tips you are willing to pass on!

Regards,

Dan Shaw

Richard,

Thank you too for such a great rundown on the environment here within OSU, your personal experience to my questions and the information regarding the monthly community meetings.

Fortunately we are a small shop with <10 Drupal sites; so when I hear that you are managing ~300 and many of those being Drupal 7 sites, I feel that I have some breathing room.

I'll try not to spam the list further at this time, but thanks again to you and those that have replied. It is very appreciated!

Regards,

Dan
