The Office of International Affairs has and is continuing to invest to a large extent in hiring professional consultants to assist with the development and maintenance of our web enabled databases and applications. Considering OIA's ongoing unique needs, we are investing in an in-house Database/Web Developer position that shall be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and administration of the unit's online environment. Filling this position will reduce our reliance on outside contractors and improve standardization, security, and interoperability of databases within OIA.

In addition to working closely with the Security Engineer, this position will work closely with the OIA Communications team to ensure that applications are developed in alignment with OIA online strategy, branding, and publicity requirements. The primary objective of this position is to deliver the technology that will make it easy to collect, store, and retrieve information inside and outside of OIA. OIA's Strategic Plan 2012-2017 includes a two part Resources Stewardship goal: 1) information sharing and 2) service delivery through the use of technology. This position is designed to help us reach the first part of the goal.

The essential job duties are:


*         Develops, maintains, and improves custom internal and external web applications and interfaces, including underlying business and data layers, using web programming languages (PHP, Visual Basic, C+, Java, Joomla, Drupal) and data base systems (MySQL or MSSQL) in Windows and Linux environments

*         Works independently and in project teams to ensure applications are implemented according to project specifications and department guidelines including code quality, documentation, security, and brand guidelines; responsible for proactively writing and maintaining thorough documentation, identifying needs and proposing solutions, and suggesting methods of improving services

*         Resolves problems in a timely manner, adheres to current policies and procedures, and assists network administrators with infrastructure configuration and management as necessary; the major areas of emphasis include maintenance of current systems, multiple servers and databases; new program planning, development, implementation, data analysis, and evaluation

Required Qualifications are:

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; considerable experience installing, administering, and theming modern Internet content management systems; considerable experience developing, installing, selecting, and administering PHP and MySQL based web applications in Windows and Linux based environments; experience with Linux server administration; experience with project management duties; ability to work independently while juggling multiple projects and adhering to standards.
