Hey Chris,
ASC has more than 100 sites (some of which are listed here: http://asccomm.osu.edu/services/web/portfolio<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v1/url?u=http://asccomm.osu.edu/services/web/portfolio&k=ux7ohqYFcw1oDo0gOpSLlw%3D%3D%0A&r=ER85wZV%2FDjfeGsF6jUWwzynRlrCUifBclrMYQ1Thnno%3D%0A&m=8XJCq9QAg0ZoFwHrnP3OD7rqgNAaFPMNxl9SJ5NjXQg%3D%0A&s=1c40e5f288f161528fafd9c6b36fedf051c94623614ee92bca67862da09d68e9>) that are on Drupal. About 30-40% are on Drupal 7 (production and staging) and the remaining are on Drupal 6. All new sites are being created in Drupal 7 and we have plans to transition sites from Drupal 6 through to Drupal 7.

In general, campus units that operate Drupal seem to be herding around the same versions (first 6 and now 7;) which is not some choice we took together, it just happens that way due to the way Drupal supports its versions.

Dan's advice is spot on; if you plan to release soon, Drupal 7 it is.

Regards,
George

Chris,
I believe Drupal 7 is what you are looking for if you are going to release the site soon. Drupal 8 comes out (supposedly) "soon" (like maybe winter this year? ...it keeps moving), so if you are willing to pay the cost of being on the cutting edge, you may want to plan for that. Check out the latest here: https://drupal.org/core/release-cycle<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v1/url?u=https://drupal.org/core/release-cycle&k=ux7ohqYFcw1oDo0gOpSLlw%3D%3D%0A&r=ER85wZV%2FDjfeGsF6jUWwzynRlrCUifBclrMYQ1Thnno%3D%0A&m=XeaYDHzASCkWdGeBLJe88mLdXJ6WCTlN3FGLFRpSNIg%3D%0A&s=1bee98c6e8bdcbe848f49b06c02bfcfb96a14e88a45affcaf0c68cbbc3819d3d>

I am very much a newbie as well, however I went to Drupal Camp last year and a professional trainer gave us this advice: "If you're even, stay even; if you're odd, stay odd" - meaning, only upgrade versions of Drupal every other time. This is because the migration from one version to the next is infamously packed with overhead and problems, however support for drupal is usually only the newest one, and the previous 2 versions.

Hope I helped!

Good Morning all,
I am new as well, what is the current/updated version of Drupal that everyone is using here at OSU? We are looking to do a major upgrade to the Nisonger site as well.

Thanks, any help is much appreciated.
