This book considers how the American graphic novel has reshuffled the cards of comics history, with prominent cartoonists as Chris Ware, Art Spiegelman, Seth, Charles Burns, Daniel Clowes digging into comics archives of comics to recover a common visual heritage and pass it on to new readers. It studies the role of cartoonists as historians of their chosen medium by analyzing the contexts and gestures for this making of comics heritage.
