Introduction

Enhancing Education Through Multidisciplinary Film Teaching Methodologies will feature chapters written by scholars and teachers with first-hand experience using film as a layered and complex text, with particular attention to strategies that emphasize close reading, analysis, curricular connections, and composing with/through film. Approaches using critical theories, as well as descriptions of actual classroom practices, are welcome and encouraged. The editor is particularly interested in studies that emphasize critical literacy, multimodal literacy, media literacy, and New Literacies, but is open to a variety of proposals.

Objective
The objective of this book is to take a closer look at both theory and practice that surrounds the use of film in K-12 and post-secondary classroom instruction from an multidisciplinary perspective. Scholars and teachers have been invited to submit chapters that closely examine the use of film through a variety of lenses and across a variety of disciplines.

Target Audience
This book will be ideal for researchers interested in multimodal literacy, media-based connections with texts, and close analysis of filmic/visual texts, as well as teachers who are interested in exploring new ways to think about pedagogy using a range of texts for instruction.
