I've received a couple of questions about what exactly do
you need to do before the first lab this week, exp 1.
I've sent out a number of e-mails and there's information
at the Welcome link. Let me try to summarize.

1) Read the Lab Safety Statement and sign it. (on Carmen)

Do this before your first lab period or you'll have to do it
in the first lab period before you start working on the exp and
you might not have time to finish the exp.

2) Do the Check-in and Safety (Gatekeeper) Quiz. This is
actually at an external link but can be reached from a
link in Carmen as well. This can wait until after the first
week but is due by Sunday, Aug. 26 at 11:59 PM.

It still is NOT working
correctly. I will let you know
as soon as it's fixed.

The above three things can be found on Carmen.

3) Write out the procedure for exp 1 in your notebook.

Look at the last couple pages of my syllabus, Appendix A
in the manual, the "Notebook and Report Instructions"
link at the Laboratory Module on Carmen for an idea
of how to do the notebook. Don't worry if it's not
perfect. You aren't graded on it for the first experiment.
The TA will "grade" it and tell you how to improve it.

If you don't have the manual click on Exp 1 in the
Laboratory
Module on Carmen and you will see the manual pages for
exp 1.

4) Finally, come in the proper attire. This is explained in the
syllabus,
the Safety Pages in the manual, the Safety Statement and the
Gatekeeper quiz. Have long pants (jeans are best, NO leggings
or
spandex), shirts with sleeves (no tank tops, crop tops, etc.)
and shoes
which cover the entire foot (no sandals or open toed shoes).

I hope this helps.
