What about cell phones in class? I know how
"important" it is to
always be connected to others now a days. I would appreciate
them
not ringing in class. I'm not going to throw you out of class
if it happens
to ring but it will cause a momentary disruption. Also, if you
are texting
or surfing the web that's up to you but it may mean you miss
something.
Contrary to popular belief, people are not all that capable of
multitasking
and actually getting anything useful out of what you are
experiencing.
Who knows, some day I may call on you in class and ask what I
just said
or ask you a question and if you are busy with other things you
may not be
able to answer.

How about cell phones in lab? We do NOT allow cell
phones in lab
unless the TA gives specific permission to do so. They need to
be put away
in your book bags (not just in the storage bins at each lab
station or in your
pocket). We want you paying attention to what your doing.
Otherwise you
could make a mistake, have an accident, not finish the exp.,
etc. If the TA
sees you using your cell phone w/o permission they will deduct
points from
your lab grade. We also don't allow computers/tablets either,
unless given
permission.

The same applies to the review/quiz sessions. No cell phones
allowed.
Actually, for quizzes and exams nothing electronic is allowed
except an
allowed calculator. All other electronics have to be turned off
and put away.
Even electronic watches have be removed and put away.
