and which aren't. I've sent a couple of e-mails about this. You can<br>
tell in MC in a variety of ways. Hopefully the following will help.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Mastering uses symbols and colors for various types of assignments.<br>
There are two viewing formats you can use, Calendar and List.<br>

In the calendar format assignments show up as different symbols/colors<br>
(explained in detail below). If there's too many on a particular day to show<br>
it shows this (e.g. "+5 more"). When you click on a day you should see<br>
information about the assignment(s) to the right, such as the name, due<br>
date, number of items and the estimated time required (I've found from<br>
past classes the time it takes is closer to the low end of the range shown<br>
or even less). Then click on the link for the assignment. It will show<br>
if there are points associated with the questions. The calendar format<br>
makes it easy to see what days assignments are due in one screen.<br>

In the list format assignments show up as different symbols/colors on<br>
the left with the name of the assignment. To the right you'll see the due<br>
date and time and the number of items and estimated time required.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

purple + (plus) sign on the due date<br>
<br>
In the list format you'll see "<b><span style="color:#993399">Tutorials</span></b>" in the name and it<br>
also has a <span style="color:#993399">purple + sign</span>.<br>
<br>
<b>Homework Review:<br>
</b><br>
Have "<b><span style="color:#0070C0">Homework Review</span></b>" in the name. These show up as a<br>
<span style="color:#0070C0">blue circle </span>in both the calendar and list formats.<br>

<b><span style="color:red">NOT for Credit</span>: Show up as zero points.<br>

DSM modules:</b><br>
<br>
The DSM modules (not for credit) show up as a <span style="color:red">red flame </span>
symbol. They<br>
have a flame as well in the list format. What are these for? If you need some<br>
extra work. They are randomized. Make sure you do the assigned book<br>
problems and the MC homework which is for credit (see above) before<br>
trying these. Most students have told me these are easier than in the book.<br>
Many use them as a review before the exam. However, you need to make<br>
sure you can do the end-of-chapter exercises and the MC tutorials and<br>
homework review assignments if you hope to do well on the quizzes and<br>
exams.<br>
<br>
<b>Practice Exercise 1:<br>
<br>
</b>These are the Practice Exercise 1 problems which follow the Sample Exercises.<br>
I've included these so you would have the solutions to these questions since there<br>
are no answers in the book for these. You can ask for the answer and it provides<br>
a short explanation. The answers for practice exercise 2 are in the back of the book.<br>
<br>
These have "Practice Exercise 1" in the title. Unfortunately, these have a purple<br>
+ sign like the tutorials. I made a new category for these but MC doesn't give me<br>
the ability to use a different symbol or color.<br>
