This is just a quick e-mail because I'm getting a number of<br>
questions about the class and books required. The syllabus is<br>
up. My class web pages and Carmen are almost ready but I'm giving<br>
things one more check so there may still be some minor changes. I<br>
will be sending out another e-mail shortly with more information<br>
about the class. If you are on the waiting list you are also getting<br>

In the meantime, this is what I know about the textbooks:<br>

1) Someone asked about the ISBN numbers for the textbook, lab manual
and lab<br>
notebook. You can find these things by going to the Barnes
& Noble web site<br>
(for OSU - ISBN numbers may be specific to this site,
particularly for the textbook),<br>

Then click on "Select Term" (Fall).<br>

You will see the required books. The textbook listed (which
they've<br>
marked "required") is the OSU custom edition and is only sold
at the<br>
OSU B&N. You might check the other campus bookstores.
They've<br>
listed it as the 15th edition. It is NOT. It is the 13th
edition. That is the<br>
latest edition we're using this summer.<br>

Technically you only need the <b>textbook </b>(13th, 12th or
11th editions are fine),<br>
<b>lab notebook </b>and <b>lab manual</b>. <br>

will not be using it. As of this moment, I'm <font
color="#ff0000"><b>not </b></font>planning on using
on-line homework, but the Vice Chair could decide
differently in the next day or so. I'll let everyone know

You may want to check into the Student Guide for the edition
you get. It offers extra explanations and examples for each
section in the textbook. It also as extra problems at the end
of each of its chapters (although they appear to be a little
easier than the End-of-Chapter problems in the textbook).
This is not needed but some students have told me they have
found it to be useful.</i></span>

4) Can you use the 11th, 12th or 13th editions of the textbook?<br>

Yes. There aren't many differences between the editions and I
will announce<br>
these in class and they will be on my web site for the class
(at the "Notes" link).<br>
I have homework assignments for all four editions on my class
web page.<br>
The publisher's solutions manual for all these editions, with
worked out solutions<br>
for all end-of-chapter homework exercises can be found on the

5) I'm retaking the class, can I use my old notebook?<br>

Yes. However, you must come see Dr. Moga or me and bring your

before starting lab.<br>

6) We are very particular on the calculators used during quizzes and

We will not allow any other calculators, even if they are

calculators, Google watch, etc.<br>
Please do NOT tell us that you were allowed to use some other
calculator in another chem<br>
course. If you were, they were wrong to allow you to use it.
It will NOT be allowed in<br>
this class.<br>

I suggest you use the calculator you will use on the quizzes
and exams when you do your<br>
homework. That way you will know how to use it when you take
a quiz or exam.<br>
