Exp 16 has on-line pre and post-labs. You can reach it in Carmen,<br>
my syllabus or my class web page. The usual due dates apply.<br>
This one is different than the one for exp 14 (and later exp 20) and<br>
the ones you used if you took 1210 here.<br>

Everything seems to be in working order.<br>
<br>
<b>You get only one attempt. </b> Read the following beforehand. <br>
<br>
<br>
When doing either here's a few pointers: <br>
<br>
1) It's best to use Firefox. The versions we've tried of this
browser<br>
don't seem to have any problems. Chrome does seem to work<br>
but has it's quirks (if you leave a field blank it accepts it
as a zero).<br>
Internet Explorer seems to work but again has it's quirks.<br>
Students seem to have the most problems with Safari.<br>
<br>
While I have had it work using Firefox on my Android phone,<br>
we suggest you do NOT use your phone. Some browsers<br>
on phones are not the full fledged browser.<br>
<br>
Your browser needs to be html5 compliant.<br>
<br>
2) Do NOT reload the page or get out of the browser thinking you'll
<br>
finish later. It starts over from the beginning (meaning you
have<br>
to re-watch the video).<br>
<br>
3) It's best to use a direct ethernet connection. If using WiFi
make<br>
sure you have a strong reliable connection and do NOT change<br>
location (moving the laptop may cause it to lose connection).
If <br>
you lose internet connection the program starts over (it clears<br>
everything and you start from the beginning).<br>
<br>
WiFi connections can be flaky, to say the least. This is
especially true<br>
if you're doing this when the traffic is real heavy. If you
ever watch<br>
your wifi signal you may see it's strength change. This is due
to lots<br>
of variables, some of which is the number of people accessing
that<br>
wifi router. A lot of the problems occur at night or right
before it's<br>
due, when internet traffic may be heavier than usual. If you
lose the<br>
signal the program will reset. This can affect the
submission. This is<br>
our wonderful world of all being "connected". Make sure your
roommates<br>
aren't watching those wonderful cat videos on Youtube while
you're<br>
working on this.<br>
<br>
4) You have to watch the video all the way through or you lose
points. <br>
This means you need to let it finish through the credits.
Don't stop<br>
it or proceed until it stops playing.<br>
<br>
5) Read the whole write-up for the exp and write the procedure
before <br>
attempting the pre-lab. Watch the video in the pre-lab (don't
just play<br>
it). This video be different than the video you see in lab but
even if<br>
it's the same watching now or even before you write the
procedure is a<br>
good idea (the video is also available on my web page). I
suggest you<br>
write the procedure first before attempting the pre-lab. If
you do this <br>
you should be able to answer all the questions for the pre-lab.
<br>
<br>
6) Numbers less than 1, such as 0.11, must be entered with the "0"
before <br>
the decimal point. It will not accept ".11". Do NOT use sci.
notation<br>
unless specifically directed to.<br>
<br>
7) Make sure there's no space (blanks) at the beginning or end of
the number.<br>
It will not accept "0.11 ", " 0.11" or " 0.11 ".<br>
<br>
8) Sometimes if there's a problem with something you entered in a
box<br>
(particularly for numeric values) the box will be outlined (in
red, the<br>
color could vary depending on your browser). If you position
the<br>
mouse button over the box it will give an error message such as<br>
"Please match the requested format." or "Only a number, no
units"<br>
(this one will occur even if there's no unit but you didn't
enter the<br>
number correctly, see #6 and #7 above). This is particularly
true in<br>
Firefox. Firefox won't submit it when you click the "Submit"
button<br>
if there's a formatting problem.<br>
<br>
9) Make sure you're satisfied with your answers. Once you hit
submit <br>
there's <b>NO redo</b>.<br>
<br>
The program will send you a confirmation e-mail if things were
submitted<br>
properly (from <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated"
href="mailto:gc.labs@chemistry.ohio-state.edu">gc.labs@chemistry.ohio-state.edu</a>).
If you don't get one<br>
pretty quickly check your spam or junk folder. If not there,
it probably didn't<br>
submit properly and you should redo it. Also, if submitted
correctly the<br>
screen should refresh with your answers. The data entry part
includes the<br>
correct values to the right of yours in parentheses. There's
also a list at the<br>
bottom of what you missed. Again, if you don't see this
something went<br>
wrong. It's a good idea to print this, take a screen shot or
generate a PDF<br>
for your records or in case you wish to discuss something with
me.<br>
<br>
If you don't get the e-mail or see the page refresh or just
aren't sure try to<br>
redo it. If you redo it, it's probably a good idea to clear
your cache or better<br>
yet get out of the browser and reopen it. If it went through
successfully the<br>
first time it won't let you do it again.<br>
<br>
If you have to redo it or the page reloads for any reason you
start over from the<br>
BEGINNING. That means you have to redo the WHOLE thing. That
means<br>
watching the video over all the way to the end (there's no
video for the post-lab).<br>
If it doesn't go through properly there's no record, period, of
you having<br>
done any of it.<br>
<br>
10) If you have tried more than once to submit it w/o any luck try a
different<br>
browser or something with a hard connection (ethernet
connection).<br>
Also, before submitting a second time take screen shots or
pictures.<br>
Then send me this with the information in #11 below. <br>

5-digit section number for your lab<br>
day/time of lab<br>
TA name<br>
computer you're using (PC, Mac, iPad, Android, phone, etc.)<br>
