<p class="MsoNormal">The OAA is again repeating its early registration incentive used last year to encourage early registration. If you register by December 31, 2022, your name will be placed in a pool eligible for registration reimbursement during the annual
OAA Business Meeting. Register now to be included. You can also renew or purchase an OAA membership in combination with your conference registration.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Three highlights of this year’s conference, as outlined by Bill Lynch, OAA President:<o:p></o:p></p>
<ol style="margin-top:0in" start="1" type="1">
<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">OAA has planned a single Special Plenary Session Friday afternoon, January 20, for all conference attendees to attend. This plenary session is titled
<b>“Prospering in an Economic Downturn”</b>. The OAA is thrilled that <b>Dr. Carole Engle</b>, renowned aquaculture economist, has agreed to conduct this session for Ohio aquaculture and aquaponics farmers to better situate themselves to prosper during economic
downturns. Most economists feel that if U.S is not currently in a recession, it will be in 2023. Recession can pose significant challenges to fish farmers, such as rising costs for our inputs, potentially declining sales of our products, as well as higher
interest rates. All Ohio fish farmers know that feed prices have risen significantly in the last year. Dr. Engle conducted similar sessions and presentations during the 2007-2008 economic downturn, and they were well received and helped many U.S. aquatic operations.
The Ohio Aquaculture and Aquaponics industry is very fortunate Dr. Engle is available and to be honest, quickly agreed to enlighten us on this important topic. Please note that while this plenary session will have an aquaculture/aquaponics focus, much of what
will be presented and discussed has relevance to other businesses you may have. A big shout-out to the Ohio Soybean Council for sponsoring this special plenary session!<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">Another exciting Friday session has been planned that conference attendees might want to be present for. The OAA Board considers our exhibitors to be critical to our conference’s successes
over the years, both financially as well as networking with attendees on the goods and services they provide to our industry. The OAA Board, to further enhance this networking, will be conducting a special event on Friday morning titled
<b>“Breakfast With Our Exhibitors”</b>. What makes this Friday morning special for you is that each exhibitor will be offered the chance to provide a 10–15-minute presentation on their entity as well as how they can help Ohio aquaculture and your farm move
forward and be more successful. “Breakfast With Our Exhibitors” will commence at 9:30 AM and continue to around 12:00 PM. Breakfast will be served beginning at 9:00 AM at no extra cost to attendees – it is included in your registration. We will be asking
you to RSVP for this special breakfast when you register for the conference so that we can better plan food needs. You can RSVP when you register for the conference online. The hot breakfast will consist of Belgian waffles, eggs, bacon, ham, potatoes, and
various pastries. Please note that on Friday no lunch is provided so if you attend the “Breakfast With Our Exhibitors” please eat heartily. Those not attending this breakfast should plan on eating lunch on their way to the conference. There are plenty of local
restaurants in the area. <o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">You may recall in the summer 2022 newsletter, I described a new format for each session in which the first half of a session will be two 40-minute presentations by presenters focusing
on the session topic, followed by a break, and then a panel/audience discussion of the session topic. Again, as an example, in the aquaponics session, the two presentations will focus on aquaponics and after a break, the panel will convene comprised of aquaponics
folks. The panel will answer all directed questions on aquaponics from their perspective. Audience discussion will be encouraged. This format will be followed on Saturday, January 21 for sessions on
<b>RAS, Pond Culture, Aquaponics, and Selling Your Aquatic Products. </b>This is a great learning opportunity, not only from formal presentations, but also discussing the session topic with panels as well as other farmers.<o:p></o:p></li></ol>
