From soards.4 at buckeyemail.osu.edu Tue Sep 5 15:27:35 2023 From: soards.4 at buckeyemail.osu.edu (Soards, Trey W.) Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2023 19:27:35 +0000 Subject: [AFS_OSU] Foundry Club Meeting Recap + Survey Message-ID: Hi everyone, Thank you to those who could make it to our first meeting this past Thursday! For those who couldn't make it, we went over the basic information of what Foundry Club is and what we'd be doing this semester. We decided that our first meeting in the Foundry would be something during the week of September 11th. It seemed like Thursday, September 14th at 5:00 PM was a good time for the people who made it to the meeting, but we'd like everyone to fill out this survey to finalize the date, as well as decide on the best time for future club meetings. The survey also asks about interest in the Cast in Steel competition. This year's subject is a Halligan Bar, and we will be organizing a team to work on designing and casting one to submit for the competition. Have a great week! The Tour is 5:30-7:30 and will include time for networking, dinner, and the tour itself. Please see the attached flier for more information. The facility is approximately 20 minutes away from campus, and we will be carpooling for those that need it. The Board has been working on our chapters upcoming events but it seems things come together slowly since COVID. Yes, it still seems to be an obstacle when trying to plan an event. We do have a few things to announce and at least 1 safe the date. The Winter Party Committee (Jessica) has been working on a new location for our gathering. We are pleased to announce our new Winter Party location at Hollywood Casino!! Again, details are being worked out and we will send a flyer as soon as they are available. The date to save is February 17, 2024. That is all I can say for now other than it will be fun. We are also working on the Scholarship Program for the students. We are hoping to have a tour of their new facility in October but do not have confirmation so far. The Scholarship Program will be introduced to the students as soon as we have the applications ready. This year we have added Kent State University to our program opportunity. We hope a little friendly competition will help inspire more involvement in our program. Tours we are working on for this year are Ryder Heil in Bucyrus, a shared tour with the OCMA and a possible tour of an oil rig, in the spring, by the Ohio Natural Energy Institute. In January, during the Scholarship Presentation, we will have Mark DeBruin of Skuld LLC, speak on Investment Castings. I realize the only date you see is for the Winter Party so I started a Facebook page for updates and posts. I am a little new at this and hope it is open for you to view. The group name is AFS-COC on Facebook. I just got it up and haven't trialed it yet but I will be posting and updating as we go. You should also be able to post such as you do for LinkedIn, and it will be monitored. Lets be professional... Looking forward to filling in the dates and seeing everyone again. Thank you so much and have a great weekend! GO BUCKS!! Michael J. We can decide as a club what we want to do when we are all there, but some options include the stadium, chess pieces, and footballs. Safety glasses will be provided if you don't have a pair, but please remember to wear pants and close-toed shoes. This meeting should take around 2-3 hours, and everyone that participates will be able to take a casting home at our next meeting.
